Lake LBJ & Marble Falls Fishing Report - 1st week of March 2013

I fished LBJ and Marble Falls this past week and the pre-spawn bite is really turning on.    The morning bite is very slow do to some many over night low temperatures and constant cloud cover.  The air temperature varied only a few degrees in the high 50’s and the water temperature is in the same range.

On LBJ, the bass were in 2’-5’ around grass and weeds out of the wind.  Most all bass were keepers and ranged from  2# to 3 1/2#.  The heaviest bass weighed 6.2#.  The bass were caught on flukes, weightless worms, swim baits, creature baits and drop-shot.

On Marble Falls, the average bass was bigger, 2 1/2# to 4# but no bigger fish.  The bass are still rather lethargic so a slow retrieve and then dead sticking the soft plastics was the pattern that really worked.  Most all our bites came with soft plastic swim baits rigged weightless with a small split-shot about 12" up the leader from the bait.

I suspect that with good sunshine forecasted for next week, the bass fishing on all the Central Texas lakes will be getting pretty hot.  Call me or complete the Contact Form to schedule your bass fishing outing while the fish are in the mood.
