Fishing Report - Canyon & Dunlap - 2nd Week March 2013
I spent the last week fishing Canyon and Dunlap. Both lakes are getting ready for the spawn. Dunlap is ahead of Canyon with water temperatures in the high 60's and low 70's and many beds can be found with buck bass and an occasional female. A variety of bait are producing in shallow water. Canyon's water temperature is ranging from the high 50's to low 60's and the bass are just now beginning to move into spawning areas. White bass, strippers and crappie are holding at the mouth of the river in pretty large numbers. I believe the fish are holding in the mouth longer this year. Because of the poor river flow there is little to encourage the fish to move upstream to spawn. Most of these fish are in the 30' to 40' range, and catchable.
Largemouth are being caught in pretty good numbers on both lakes but they are not easy picking, yet. It is my belief that with the expected high temperatures this week and warmer nights that the spring fishing will explode this week.
If you have not booked your spring trip with me, this is the time while there are still some openings
